Brighton vs Nottingham Forest: Preview, predictions and fixtures

Two Premier League teams will meet on Sunday afternoon as Brighton & Hove Albion host Nottingham Forest.

Fabian Hurzeler’s start to the season has been excellent so far, even if the confusing head-to-head draw with newly promoted Ipswich Town felt like a wasted opportunity. However, after beating Manchester United and playing Arsenal already this season, Brighton secured their place in the Carabao Cup in the fourth round in midweek after a stunning win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The south coast side are unbeaten under their young German manager but they will be tested in the surprise opening weeks of the 2024/25 season this Sunday.

Nottingham Forest travel south as they look to build on last weekend’s impressive win over Liverpool. Callum Hudson-Odoi’s strike earned the Midlands side their first victory at Anfield in 55 years and maintained their unbeaten Premier League record at the start of the new division.

Here it is 90 min Brighton vs Nottingham Forest guide.

João Pedro

Hurzeler has revealed that star striker Joao Pedro is still a doubt for Sunday’s game after missing both of Brighton’s games following the international break. He will return to club training ahead of Forest’s visit but is likely to miss out with a minor injury.

Solly March is still sidelined with a long-term injury and is joined by James Milner and new signings Brajan Gruda and Matt O’Riley in the treatment room.

Ferdi Kadioglu scored in his second game for Brighton in midweek following a summer move from Fenerbahce and the attack-minded left-back could start this weekend. Evan Ferguson also started his first game for the Seagulls since March on Wednesday but is likely to be benched.

Brighton predicted schedule vs Nottingham Forest (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Ayari, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s only players confirmed to be absent from the trip to Brighton are midfielders Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare. The former broke his ankle on the opening day of the season and the latter suffered a hamstring injury and faces a serious injury if he doesn’t play.

Forest held the midfield role against Liverpool as they sought to end the threat of their opponents, but they could not play freely at the Amex. As a result, Anfield substitutes Anthony Elanga and Hudson-Odoi could be brought back into the starting XI.

Nottingham Forest predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Sels; Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Moreno; Yates, Ward-Prowse; Sun, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood.

Both teams have made an encouraging start to 2024/25, with two wins and two draws each. However, we want Brighton to punish Forest for their first Premier League defeat this weekend.

Forest may play more aggressively on the south coast and may be hurt by Brighton’s exciting front line as a result – especially if Pedro features. It’s unlikely to be a high-scoring game or a routine win for the Seagulls, but we’re backing their high quality to make the difference.

Prediction: Brighton 2-0 Nottingham Forest
