Bruins Sign Tyler Johnson – Hockey Writers – Bruins Transactions
The Boston Bruins and veteran forward Tyler Johnson have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $775,000, the team announced Monday. Johnson spent the preseason training camp with the Bruins on a technical tryout (PTO) before eventually signing a contract with the team following the start of the regular season. This is not the first time the Bruins have chosen this type of move as they signed Danton Heinen last season following a similar strategy.
Despite the fact that the Bruins are coming off a weekend shutout, it’s clear that the Bruins needed a change. Johnson, a veteran of 738 NHL games, has scored 193 goals and 431 points during his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks.

For the Bruins, installing Johnson shouldn’t be too far of a task. As mentioned, the veteran forward also spent the preseason with the team and continued to skate with the Bruins following the start of the regular season. This sounds like a “when” rather than an “if” to be signed, and both sides apparently felt that now was the time to make a deal.
The Bruins’ next game comes on Tuesday when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs on the road. It’s unclear which line Johnson will play, but it would be surprising if he wasn’t immediately included in the lineup for this game. His experience and style of play should be beneficial for the Bruins and for Johnson, this is an opportunity to prove that he still has a lot to offer to an NHL team.
