The guards put the outside player Is Brennan on the 10-day injured list, restarting on June 25, with rib swelling. Striker José Tena moves up from Triple-A Columbus to take his place on the active roster. Cleveland also chose Xzavion Curry and remembered Darren McCaughan.
Brennan became Cleveland’s primary right fielder, starting 43 of their 78 contests. He’s having a solid season, hitting .256/.314/.415 in 226 plate appearances. Brennan has already hit a career high with eight home runs while keeping his strikeout rate at a clean 11.9% clip. The guards protected him from the left tackle, giving him all but 29 plate appearances with a platoon.
It’s unclear how long Brennan will be sidelined, but at least he’ll miss next week as well as this one. The Rangers begin an important divisional series in Kansas City tonight. Daniel Schneemann handles the right field closely Tyler Freeman again Steven Kwan. Schneemann will likely take most of the right field work with Brennan on the shelf, at least against righty pitching. The 27-year-old rookie is hitting .280/.379/.520 in his first 58 big league plate appearances.
