Catterall Vs. Taylor Rematch: Cracker Of A Fight Awaits Tonight, Hearn Says

Promoter Eddie Hearn is expecting a fight tonight in a rematch between former undisputed light welterweight champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) and Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England. The event will be shown live on DAZN.

After a controversial decision loss to Taylor two years ago in Glasgow, Scotland, Catteral won’t want to take any chances of getting robbed a second time. He will be looking to finish Taylor with a knockout.

Hearn expects the rounds to be close, and they can be. Whatever advantage Taylor had over Catterall early in his career is now gone. Taylor is older, and not the fighter he used to be.

Hearn says he heard Catterll tell Taylor on the scale Friday that his “job is done” when they met. Both the stars are in a sad state.

This fight here might be as good as it goes right now because they won’t get a good day to lead Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, or Teofimo Lopez. These are the only fights that lead well for either of these guys in the division.

Hot Exchange at Weigh-In

“They fought for the undisputed, and the argument of two years ago is now irrelevant,” said promoter Eddie Hearn on iFL TV about Saturday night’s rematch between Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor in Leeds.

“Two great players ready to go to war tomorrow night, and I think we’re going to have a cracker. Jack said, ‘You’re done tomorrow night. Your job is done,” Hearn said of what was said between Catterll and Taylor when they looked at each other on the scale on Friday.

Taylor’s inaction and poor performance against Teofimo Lopez last year cost him his career. It is impossible to believe that Taylor will be able to come back and be the fighter that he was a few years ago when he defeated Regis Prograis.

“Jack said, ‘Oh, you’re chirping now, aren’t you? Then he went to catch him there, Jack went for his throat again, luckily they were separated. Treat them well. That’s what we want. “There is no more selling war,” said Hearn.

A Different Fight Awaits

“You know how they feel about each other. I don’t think Josh expected much from Jack Catterall in that first fight. I don’t think you really rated him. Now you know how good Jack Catterall is. “I think he’s going to fight a different battle,” Hearn said.

It would be a different fight, but you should expect Taylor to win because he has the pedigree and has done more at the professional level than Catterall. That is the difference in this fight.

“They will not want the fight to go to the cards. Although there are a few thousand Scottish people there on Saturday night, there are also Jack Catterall fans. So you don’t want this thing to go 12 rounds,” said Hearn.

It would be a good idea for Taylor and Catterall to go all out for a knockout tonight because the last thing they need is to lose a controversial decision.

“They are so well matched that if it goes 12 rounds, it will be a close fight. No one will handle all the rounds of this battle. It’s unlikely, but I think Jack Catterall will start well and quickly. “Don’t let Josh get you down,” Hearn said.
