CEO says Aston Villa will be under pressure to spend in the summer

The former chief executive of Aston Villa revealed the plans for the future of his former club saying that the pressure is on the club to spend more money.

Unai Emery’s side are on course to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1981 as they are currently fourth in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur is still their only rival in this position but although the North London club has a game in hand, they are still seven points behind.

If they were to qualify for the Champions League as expected, it would undoubtedly put Emery in contention for manager of the year, regardless of what happens at the top.

Aston Villa have urged him to leave in the summer

The Spanish manager is now a favorite among Villa fans, who will no doubt be looking forward to seeing what their side do in next summer’s transfer window.

The former CEO of the club, Keith Wyness, said that they will be under pressure to spend a lot of money if they qualify for Europe.

“Now they have enough to keep Luiz, Ollie Watkins and other stars – and add more.” He told Football Insider.

“If they are in the Champions League, they will be under pressure to go out and spend big players to ensure that the team is at the right level.”
