CHARLEY HULL “COULD BE A SPECIAL SUCCESS AT ST ANDREWS” – Golf News
Charley Hull admitted winning the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews would be “very special” ahead of Thursday’s first round.
The 28-year-old missed out on last year’s tournament after being beaten by American Lilia Vu, who produced a brilliant final round 67 to win at Walton Heath.
This year St Andrews will play the competition for the third time in its history and it is a course which Hull describes as giving him “bumps”.
He told a press conference: “I put it in after nine yesterday morning, and as you go down the 17th and 18th you get goosebumps. It’s very good.
“Obviously it’s the home of golf. It would be a special victory. It’s something you’ve always dreamed of as a baby, so it can be very special.”

The world number 10 begins her campaign on Thursday in a group that includes defending champion Vu and world number one Nelly Korda.
Hull comes into the tournament after finishing tied for 27th at the Olympics earlier this month and most recently finishing fifth at last week’s Scottish Open.
She entered Paris 2024 recovering from a shoulder injury that forced her to withdraw from the Aramco Team Series in July, but insisted she is “ready to go” at the Women’s Open.
When asked how he has progressed from his injury, Hull said: “I think the first round of the Olympics was just a bit of a bummer. Like doing a lot of work, but when I come back after five weeks without work, I get a little nervous.
“But it was the first round of the Olympics, I don’t know why, and the last three rounds I was good and then I came back to myself and did it last week.
“My shoulder just got a little stiff so I got acupuncture, and needles in it every day.
“Actually, I got it after this. Because when it’s cold, it can play a little. I also have degenerative arthritis.
“So when it’s cold, it’s hard, so (I) just try to keep it warm. Other than that, I am fit and ready to go.”
