Charlotte FC are in talks with Newcastle to sign Miguel Almiron

MLS side Charlotte FC are in talks to sign Miguel Almiron from Newcastle according to Fabrizio Romano.

Newcastle are looking to offload Almiron, who has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but an exit is yet to materialise.

The Magpies are in the market for a new right winger, and selling Almiron would not only create space in the squad they need but also help fund their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Charlotte FC in Almiron talks

Almiron arrived at Newcastle from MLS side Atlanta United for £21m in 2019 and has gone on to make 209 appearances for the club.

However, Newcastle are keen to sell the Paraguayan player and Romano has reported that he may be offered the chance to return to America with Charlotte FC, who signed Tim Ream on a free transfer from Fulham.

He logged onto X.com and said:

“EXCL: Charlotte FC boss now in London begins talks to bring Miguel Almirón back to MLS.

“The way we did it with Newcastle, it’s not an easy thing but Charlotte FC is trying. There are two days left before the end of the MLS transfer window. “

With just two days left in the window for MLS teams, the time to agree on a deal has run out and it is not yet clear what kind of money Newcastle expects from Almiron.

The 30-year-old has two years left on his current deal at St James’ Park so Newcastle will be hoping for a suitable fee, although MLS clubs are not known for paying big transfer fees.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of right-backs throughout the summer, including Michael Olise who ended up joining Bayern Munich, and are reportedly interested in Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

If Almiron leaves Newcastle he could increase his interest in Madueke and try to test Chelsea’s willingness to the England under-21 international.
