The Blues have agreed with Leicester City to appoint Enzo Maresca as their next manager, and the Italian will sign a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will also be busy in the upcoming window as the club are believed to be looking to sign four players, a goalkeeper, a defender, a left back and a striker.

Chelsea target Ortega

Chelsea signed two goalkeepers last summer in Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, and they still have Kepa Arrizabalaga on their books.

The imminent arrival of Maresca has made the Blues linked with a number of goalkeepers including James Trafford of Burnley, Giorgi Mamadashvili of Valencia and Filip Jorgensen of Villareal.

However, journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that the Stamford Bridge outfit have Ortega on their radar.

Chelsea could target a summer move for Ortega.

Jones said: “New contract talks don’t surprise me at all, especially at a time when there is speculation about Ederson’s departure.

“Ortega thinks he is good enough to be number 1 and he is willing to support himself in that sense.

“I think a few clubs will look at his situation right now to see how the negotiations are going on a new contract.

“There are a few whispers that he could be on Chelsea’s list as they are thinking of strikers who already have some Premier League experience.”

The 31-year-old played 20 games for Manchester City last season as Pep Guardiola’s side made history by becoming the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles.

The German set up a potential winner for Heung-Min Son in City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in their pre-season penalty shoot-out.

Ortega is out of contract at the Etihad in 2025, and City are reportedly ready to increase his wages from £70,000 to £90,000-a-week, but he may turn down a new deal in order to get regular game time elsewhere.

The shot stopper joined City on a free transfer from Germany’s Arminia Bielefeld in 2022, and has made 34 appearances for the English champions so far.
