Chelsea vs Servette: Preview, predictions and lineup

Chelsea will host Swiss club Servette on Thursday evening in the first leg of the Conference League.

The Blues will go into the extended league stage if they beat Servette in their two-legged tie, playing in the continent’s third-tier cup competition for the first time.

The Enzo Maresca era officially began on Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea welcomed Premier League champions Manchester City to west London in their home opener. The 2-0 defeat was the Blues’ heaviest home defeat, with midfielder Mateo Kovacic scoring the winner.

The benefit of Chelsea’s already depleted team is that Maresca should not have problems putting together a strong team for Servette’s visit. The likes of Filip Jorgensen, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Pedro Neto could be handed their first starts for the Blues.

Here it is 90 min Chelsea vs Servette guide.

After being left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Man City, Raheem Sterling has also been left out of the Blues’ squad to face Servette. Ben Chilwell was also absent on Sunday and is yet to feature in Thursday’s squad.

Defender Wesley Fofana is not in the squad to face Servette, while Reece James – who is serving a home suspension – will miss out through injury. The same can be said for left back Marc Cucurella, who scored a superb goal against City.

There was confusion about Tosin Adarabioyo’s status in this game but he is said to be available.

Chelsea predicted to face Servette (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Gusto, Badiashile, Colwill, Veiga; Dewsbury-Hall, Lavia; Palmer, Mr. Neto; Guiu.

The only concern Servette will face on Thursday is midfielder Dereck Kutesa. He has scored in the club’s last two games but is receiving strong transfer interest as the window nears.

Thomas Haberli is likely to field a similar side to the one that lost 2-1 to Braga last Thursday after making changes in the recent 7-1 Swiss Cup win over Signal.

Servette predicted the schedule vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Frick; Tsunemoto, Rouiller, Severin, Mazikou; Ondoua, Douline; Kutesa, Antunes, Cognat; Crivelli.

Chelsea should get their first win under Maresca on Thursday against the fifth-placed Swiss Super League side who were hammered 6-0 by Basel in their last outing.

The Italian is likely to make changes to the side that failed against Man City and should provide a good opportunity for other summer signings to make their mark.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Servette
