Chicago Fire vs Inter Miami: Preview, predictions, team news

Inter Miami will look to make it three wins in a row in Major League Soccer when they take on the Chicago Fire this weekend at Soldier Field.

Chicago’s Leagues Cup run didn’t go to plan as the Eastern Conference club suffered two losses to Sporting Kansas City and Toluca in the group stage before quickly exiting the competition. The Fire came back from 2-0 down against NYCFC last weekend to secure a 2-2 draw and stay alive in the play-off race in Mpumalanga.

On the other hand, Miami won 2-0 against FC Cincinnati last week at Chase Stadium to secure a place in this year’s MLS Cup playoffs. Even without Lionel Messi in the squad due to injury, the Herons are still impressive and will look to keep picking up points – especially after their Round of 16 exit from the League Cup.

Here it is 90 minChicago Fire vs Inter Miami preview.

Midfielder Fabian Herbers will miss the game due to a leg injury he picked up earlier this month, and is expected to return to action in mid-September.

Columbus Crew predicted to face Inter Miami (3-5-2): Brady; Souquet, Teran, Czichos; Arigoni, Gimenez, Gutierrez, Acosta, Gutman; Cuypers, Haile-Selassie.

The legendary Messi has recently returned to training with the Herons following his ankle injury in the Copa America final in July. It is not known if Messi will travel with the team to Chicago but you can expect him to return in the next few weeks.

Miami manager Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino will have to make changes at the back after Tomas Aviles was shown a second yellow card – his second red card of the season — in the win over Cincinnati.

Inter Miami predicted to face Chicago Fire (3-4-3): Applicant; Kryvtsov, Busquets, Martinez; Weigandt, Bright, Redondo, Alba; Rojas, Suarez, Gomez.

The Herons go into this game with a lot of momentum knowing they need three points to keep a comfortable distance between themselves and the LA Galaxy in the Supporters’ Shield race — Miami has 56 points with a game in hand and LA has 52 points.

Chicago has enough offense to at least hold a goal against a subpar Miami backline, but the Herons’ frontline is among the best in the league and will wreak havoc on the Fire defense. Luis Suarez would add a brace and Diego Gomez would score again to give the Herons a three-point lead.

Prediction: Chicago Fire 1-3 Inter Miami
