Chris Eubank Jr. Enters Promotional Deal With BOXXER, Targets Canelo, Crawford Showdowns
Chris Eubank Jr. he also received marketing support as he pursued the biggest fights of his career.
The second-generation boxer has entered into what has been described as a “career-defining partnership” with Ben Shalom’s BoXXER, both parties announced on Tuesday. The move comes after Eubank announced he would be retiring after a stint with Wasserman Boxing.
It also comes as his name has advanced near the top of the line in the ongoing Canelo Alvarez sweepstakes.
“I’m very happy to sign with BOXXER and Ben Shalom,” Eubank said on Wednesday. “They are in line with the direction I want to go. We have big plans for the next 12 to 24 months. There are big fights going on and these guys can make it happen.
“This is a partnership. I have the freedom and the freedom to work the way I want to work, which is very rare. I am in a position of power. I’m really in control of where I want to go so I’m happy.”
Eubank (33-3, 24 knockouts) has not fought since stopping Liam Smith in the tenth round last September in Manchester, England. The revenge-fueled release made The Ring’s No. 5-rated middleweight is back in blood after a fourth-round loss to Smith last January.
Both fights are inspired by BOXXER.
Two bouts with Liverpool’s Smith (33-4-1, 20 KOs), No. 7 at 160, helped fill the gap after a frustrating 2022 performance. Eubank was supposed to face Conor Benn, who was pulled from their October 2022 show after testing positive for clomiphene.
Ironically, the only big name linked to Eubank since that fight was Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford (40-0-1, 31 KOs), his mentor at the time. Both boxers trained with Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre as false rumors spread.
Now Crawford is back in the lineup for Eubank. That said, he is the top contender for the money belt against Mexico’s Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs), the current super middleweight champion.
“I’ve been in this game for 12 years and I’m still hungry,” emphasized Eubank. “I’m still happy. I still love boxing. There are 4 or 5 different names out there that are big fights that everyone wants to see. Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Conor Benn, Billy Joe Saunders – and that’s just off the top of my head.
“There are a lot of other fights that can be done, even at home, so I’m in a happy mood.”
His new team plans to do everything in their power to get him there.
“Chris Eubank Jr is undoubtedly one of the most attractive players in boxing,” said Shalom. “He brings excitement and intrigue wherever he goes. BOXXER is his natural home and I’m incredibly excited to be working with Chris to make sure we fully realize his tremendous potential and strong ambition.
“We’ve had the privilege of working with Chris on the biggest fight nights in the UK and there will be many more to come in the UK and around the world. He is a real pay-per-view star. Hunger and desire are there. We can’t wait to see him get back into the game and take part in the big fights.”
