Claressa Shields KOs LePage-Joanisse And Wins The Heavyweight Title

Known as GWOAT (Greatest Woman Of All Time) two-time undisputed world champion Claressa Shields stopped Vanessa LePage-Joanisse (7-2, 2 KOs) in the second round to win the WBC heavyweight world title on Saturday night in Little Little. Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Shields, a native of Flint, Michigan, has dominated every competitor. The only knock on the reigning middleweight champion was a lack of knockouts, but when Shields moved up to heavyweight, he showed some solid knockout power on Saturday night.

Her opponent Vanessa LePage-Joanisse is a Canadian boxer who started her professional career by winning her first three fights. After losing in 2017, LePage-Joanisse took a six-year hiatus from boxing.

He made him return to the ring in 2023 and won three fights in a row. In March 2024 LePage-Joanisse defeated Abril Argentina Vidal by split decision to win the vacant WBC heavyweight title.

In her first title defense, LePage-Joanisse faced a huge challenge as she was about to fight the best female boxer in the world. In addition to facing competition from the nobility, he was also defending his title in hostile territories.

In the opening round of the WBC world heavyweight title, Claressa Shields used her jab to dictate the pace of the round. After landing a solid left hook, Shields closed the round with a flurry of shots.

In the second round of the competition, LePage-Joanisse was on the attack as Claressa Shields had her back on the ropes. Shields continued to score a knockdown while countering LePage-Joanisse by landing a quick three-punch combination.

LePage-Joanisse managed to get up and the game continued. After the shot, Claressa Shields connected with a hard right hand that sent LePage-Joanisse back down to the canvas.

Once again LePage-Joanisse was able to get up, but Shields landed another right hand that put LePage-Joanisse down for the third and final time. With the victory, Claressa Shields (15-0, 3 KOs) won the WBC heavyweight world title, as well as the vacant WBO light-heavyweight belt.

When it comes to the pound for pound rankings in men’s boxing, it is a matter of debate, but there is no debate on the women’s side, as it is clear that Claressa Shields is the leader.
