Courtois will start, confirmed Ancelotti

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will make his first UEFA Champions League appearance in more than a year by starting the season’s final against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, manager Carlo Ancelotti said.
Luckless Courtois missed most of the season with a serious knee injury but returned to La Liga for the first of four starts for the Belgium international this month.
The urgency to bring Courtois back has been heightened by the replacement of the ill Andriy Lunin, although the Ukrainian goalkeeper will be fit if required.
“Lunin had a fever,” said Ancelotti. “He will go. He will be on the bench, of course – and yes, Thibaut Courtois will be in goal. “
Champions League squads: Thibaut starting XI
Courtois last appeared in the competition when Madrid lost 4-0 against Manchester City last season, knocking them out of the semi-finals 5-1 on aggregate.
The 32-year-old won the Champions League with the Spanish club in 2021/22 and was in goal for Atletico Madrid in their 2013/14 final defeat to the neighbours, scoring the equalizer in the 93rd minute as part of a 4-1 defeat after extra time .
After the initial injury in August, Courtois had returned to partial training in March when he developed a problem that required ligament removal.
“With the first injury, I knew I would be able to play in May,” Courtois told RMTV this week. “The second time, I wasn’t sure I was going to get the game.
“In the end there are four [games] and I feel so much better. I am a very happy man. My victory is that I played those four and I am in the final.
“Two or three months ago I wasn’t thinking, but I’m 100% and I’m in the manager’s hands, I’m here to help the team.
“If you are injured, you must always show on the field that you are the same as before, you must work hard for that. We have done that. Now I’m happy, fast, walking well. I train well, I feel good. There is no doubt.”
Despite his return to club level, 102-capped Courtois has been left out of Belgium’s Uefa Euro 2024 squad, with Red Devils boss Domenico Tedesco saying “everything has been said” about a possible recall.
“I don’t want a bad situation,” Tedesco told German media on Tuesday, via BBC Sport. “We focus on players who are in good shape.”
