Terence Crawford may need to look towards Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis now that his dream fight against Canelo Alvarez is out of the question. Ennis is a big money fight unless Honorable Canelo accepts less money than he is asking to fight Crawford. That can’t happen.
The only fighter Crawford fought during his career that brought more to the table financially than Boots did was Errol Spence, and that’s because of his popularity. Crawford jumped on that promotion, capitalizing on Spence’s popularity.
“I think he beats Boot. “I don’t think Boots is strong enough to hurt him, and I don’t think Boots brings anything to the table that Crawford hasn’t seen, and Boots gets hit a lot,” said Lionel ‘Lonnie B’ Thompson to Pro Boxing. Champions for his belief that Terence Crawford will beat Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis if they fight.
Crawford’s fear of Ennis?
Crawford insists Bots Ennis doesn’t bring anything to the table, but he always fights guys who bring less than him. That’s code language, ‘This guy is too good for me.’
Crawford still has faint hopes that the Canelo fight will happen to him. He wouldn’t want to waste that payday by fighting Ennis and possibly losing.
Ennis is the type of fighter you have to be young to face because when you’re approaching 40 like Crawford, it’s bad news. However, even if Crawford was still young, he would be too young to fight him because when he was in his mid-20s, he was still fighting at 135 years old.
“He gets hit harder than Crawford, and Crawford is sharp. Crawford is an excellent host. He will change you. He doesn’t get tired, he doesn’t give up. He gets hit with a good shot. He doesn’t show it, mental toughness. You have everything you need to hit the Boot.”
Crawford doesn’t have anywhere near enough youth left to compete with Boots, and by the time he fights again in 2025, he’ll have even less. Crawford will likely sit on the shelf, fresh off his controversial victory over Israel Madrimov, until mid-2025, and he’ll be anyone’s target.
The years are showing for Crawford, who has looked like he has aged seven years since defeating Errol Spence in a car crash last year.

Crawford is too weak and too old to stand a chance against Canelo, but that’s not the fight it could have been. It would be a rip-off to cash in on a celebrity-style fight.
Fans would pay to see Crawford, thinking he had a chance, and then be upset afterward if he played it safe like Jermell Charlo did in his one-sided loss to Canelo.
Crawford will not want to fight Canelo because he will know the outcome. So, he’ll play it safe, lose a 12-round unanimous decision, collect his big payday, and ride off into the sunset. It would be a classic catch, and Crawford would laugh later.
