Cricket South Africa announces squad for ODI series with Afghanistan

Cricket in South Africa (CSA) has officially announced their men’s squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series. Afghanistanwhich will take place in Sharjah from September 18. The announcement comes as part of the team’s strategy to build depth in its 50-overs lineup ahead of the match. ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

New players in the Proteas team

The South African selectors have given three players their first ODI call-ups: Nba Peter, Andile Simelane again Jason Smith. This decision reflects the club’s commitment to nurturing new talent and expanding its player base.

Rob Walterthe coach of the South African limited overs team, emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to emerging players. “We have decided to give opportunities to some of the younger players as well as those who have done well in the past weeks and months. This was a deliberate move, in line with our goal of building a pool of players to choose from, as we prepare for major tournaments over the next 18 months, with a long-term vision for the 50-over World. Cup in 2027,” he said in a press release.

Key players returning to 50 overs set

Seamer Good luckwho recently recovered from a right calf injury, has been included in the ODI squad, providing a major boost to the bowling attack. Ngidi’s experience and skill will be key as South Africa look to dominate the 50 overs.

The next edition of South Africa

The ODI series against Afghanistan will consist of three matches, the first match is scheduled for September 18, followed by two more on September 20 and September 22. After the ODIs, South Africa will play two T20Is against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, followed by three more ODIs against the same opponents.
