Sidney Crosby became the 10th player in NHL history to get an assist on Bryan Rust’s power play goal with about nine minutes left in the first half of the Penguins’ game against the Buffalo Sabres.

The achievement comes on the heels of his most recent accomplishment last season, when he tied Wayne Gretzky for one of the rarest victories in NHL history. Crosby’s empty-netter in an April 1 game against the New York Rangers secured his 82nd point and capped his season with 19 points per game.

Throughout his career, Crosby has been brilliant. Between his rookie season in 2005-06 and the end of the 2023-24 season, he never finished the year under a point per game. Even in seasons when Crosby missed significant time due to injury, when he played, he scored goals.

Crosby will have a chance at other records this season. He’s nearing 600 career goals and looks to surpass Gretzky and become the first player in NHL history to record 20-point-per-game seasons.

This level of consistency is rare in the NHL, and the Penguins have been blessed with such a high number for so long.
