“Deal done” – Arsenal close to completing another transfer as Romano offers ‘here we go’ deal”

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira is set to join his former club FC Porto on a season-long loan.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the completion of the deal, using his trademark “here we go” sign to indicate the deal was done.

Heading over to X, he gave the following update:

“Fabio Vieira at FC Porto, here we go! An agreement has been reached for the midfielder to return to Porto on loan from Arsenal. There is NO option to buy as mentioned yesterday, a direct loan with Porto to cover Fábio’s salary. It will only happen if Chico Coinceição leaves… and goes to Juventus.”

Why the loan move makes sense

Vieira joined Arsenal in 2022 from Porto for a transfer fee of £34 million. Despite high expectations, he found it difficult to prove himself in Mikel Arteta’s side.

Last season, the 24-year-old played just 11 Premier League games and 17 in all competitions, starting just four games. In his limited time on the field, Vieira scored two goals and provided three assists, bringing his total to three goals and nine assists in 49 appearances for the Gunners. (Transfermarkt)

The imminent arrival of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino would have prompted Vieira’s move to Arsenal, making the move away a win-win for all parties involved.

A loan move to Porto allows Vieira to return to familiar ground, where he first made his mark, while giving him the chance to regain form and confidence with regular first-team football.

There is no option to buy from the deal

Importantly, the loan deal does not include an option to buy, ensuring that Vieira will return to Arsenal at the end of the season.

FC Porto will pay Vieira’s salary during the loan period, which became possible only after the completion of Francisco Conceicao’s transfer to Juventus.
