Declan Rice has been labeled ‘overpowered’ by former team-mate in brutal test on live TV

Former Premier League player James McClean sparked controversy by abusing Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice during a live broadcast on RTE Sport.

McClean, known for his outspoken views, did not hold back in his assessment of international English.

Declan Rice has enjoyed an impressive debut season with Arsenal, playing a key role in their impressive Premier League title run.

Although the Gunners failed to Manchester City, taking the fourth title in a row, Rice’s contributions were important.

The midfielder scored seven goals and provided ten assists in 51 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself as a key player in Mikel Arteta’s side.

James McClean’s scathing criticism of Rice

McClean, who played with Rice in the Republic of Ireland national team before Rice switched to England, criticized the high praise he received from the English media.

He continued to speak RTE Sporthe said:

“I think Declan Rice is overrated. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great footballer, but the way the English media are singing about him is way too high.

‘For me, he is not world class. For me, a world-class person is a person who enters all parts of the world. I don’t think he does. I don’t think he is joining Man City before Rodri. For me Toni Kroos is world class, He dictates the game, Rodri dictates the game, I don’t think Declan Rice does that.

“The person who gets it in half, plays forward. He is very good at what he does.”

When asked about the difference in playing styles between Rice, Kroos and Rodri, McClean emphasized that Rice should be able to match the two as he plays in the same position.

“They play the same role, so why can’t they do the same things?” McClean added. “If you are going to give him this name and such a reputation, he should be able to do what he does. He sees the danger and puts out the fire, but because of the noise around him, I don’t think he should.”

Rice’s Big Money Move to Arsenal

Rice’s move to Arsenal last summer was one of the most talked about transfers. The Gunners acquired his services from West Ham United for a record fee of £105 million, making him one of the most expensive British players in history.

The move was seen as a statement of intent for Arsenal, who aim to strengthen their squad and challenge for major trophies.

Despite McClean’s harsh criticism, Rice remains a key player for Arsenal and the England national team.
