As Delhi Capitals prepares for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchise has reshuffled its coaching and management team. And the appointment of Hemang Badani as India’s head coach and former batsman, Venugopal Rao has been appointed as the new Director of Cricket. These strategic appointments reflect the franchise’s intention to build a more competitive unit and improve its recent performance.

Known for his experience coaching domestic T20 teams, Badani is looking forward to working with his coaching staff as they prepare for the big auction and the challenges ahead.

The new coach expresses enthusiasm for the challenge ahead
Badani expressed his gratitude for joining the Delhi Capitals, thanking the owners for their trust in him. He acknowledged the upcoming auction as an important one and is looking forward to working with the coaching staff to begin his role.
“It is an absolute honor to join the Delhi Capitals, and I am very grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job. With the big auction just around the corner, my work, in collaboration with our coaching staff, is cut out. I can’t wait to get started,” said Badani as he delivered his speech.
Meanwhile, Rao’s promotion reflects the franchise’s belief in his cricketing knowledge and leadership skills. As Director of Cricket, he will play a key role in overseeing the team’s strategic direction, particularly in the lead-up to the new IPL cycle.
“My association with the franchise has been a classic one, and I am grateful for the trust our owners have placed in me by giving me this role. I am looking forward to this new challenge ahead of the new cycle of IPL,” said Rao.
Proven success in T20 leagues
Badani’s coaching credentials are well established, having achieved great success in various T20 circuits. Badani was the coach of the team Chepauk Super Gilliesfranchise that won the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) title three times under his leadership. His familiarity with T20 cricket is expected to bring a new twist to Delhi Capitals’ strategy.
In addition to what he has achieved in this country, Badani has coaching experience in international T20 leagues. He worked as a team coach Sunriers Hyderabad for the IPL 2022 season and was a coaching consultant Jaffna Kings of Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024where the team won.
