Deontay Wilder is committed to destroying Zhilei Zhang in their heavyweight fight next month on June 1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The fans are not buying what Deontay is saying because he looks like he can’t pull his weight anymore, suffering from his two losses to Tyson Fury, and is worried that he will be stopped again.
Fights against Fury, who punches hard, have shown that Wilder’s punching resistance is too bad for him to land the hard shots that 6’6″ southpaw ‘Big Bang’ Zhilei Zhang (26-2, 21 KOs) will throw at him in their fight. on June 1st at the Kingdom Arena.
Wilder’s apology and reformation
Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs) says he has made a “turnaround” in his life, and apologizes to Zhang in advance for what he did to him in their 12-round fight.
Wilder wants to make a statement to show people that he is back with the killer he once was after his recent losses to Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury.
The 38-year-old Wilder cannot afford to lose again if he wants to get that lucrative fight against Anthony Joshua that he has been chasing for the past five years.
Wilder is the underdog going into this fight with Zhang, and many boxing fans believe he will be knocked out in six rounds. Zhang is a very good opponent, and he is dangerous in the beginning of his fights. If he connects with anything big against Wilder early on, it will probably be over.
Deontay’s Statement Fight
“No more, Mr. Nice Guy. The Bronze Bomber is back,” said Deontay Wilder on Queensberry’s YouTube channel. “I think it’s fun to fight a lot of guys who are better than me and still be able to do what I do.”
If Wilder is going to have any chance of winning against Zhang, he will need to fire his right hand with conviction from the first round. He can’t hang around the ring, waiting for an opening because Zhang will make quick work of Deontay if he is too afraid to pull punches as we saw in his last fight with Joseph Parker last December.
“Because he has a lineage [two-time Olympian], the height, the big burst, the big punch, and the southpaw, all of that amazes me,” Wilder continued. “He is a big fighter for me to make a statement to show people that I am back.
“If I destroy him, it goes back to the top I’m on.” Zhang, I’m sorry, it must be you. I had a change in my life. They called the Bronze Bomber. I mean there is no peace for anyone. This is not a personal matter. It’s just business. I must destroy you in fashion. I’m only trying to cause pain,” said Wilder.
It will likely end badly for Wilder, who was also knocked out by Zhang within four rounds. I don’t think it will take more than four rounds for Zhang to knock Wilder out and finish his job.
