Devils Snap Panthers’ 7-Game Win Streak With 4-1 Victory – Hockey Writers – NHL News

The New Jersey Devils entered Amerint Bank Arena on Tuesday looking to avenge a tough loss against the San Jose Sharks. They were able to win the title, beating the Florida Panthers 4-1 and ending their seven-game winning streak. Jacob Markstrom made 33-of-34 stops (.970 save percentage) and was generally the Devils’ best player.

Recap of the game

The Panthers started the first by dominating the pace of the game. But with 11:30 left, Jesper Bratt made one of the greatest passes you’ll ever see: a tape-to-tape backhand to Jack Hughes, who buried it. The Devils matched their tempo later, but had to kill 5-on-3s to run out the clock and do so successfully. Markstrom pitched all 14 in the frame.

Chances were traded in the second half before Sam Reinhart tied the game for the Panthers with the man advantage. It was the first power play goal the Devils gave up in seven games. After that, Jonah Gadjovich and Brenden Dillon engaged in a spirited duel, landing equally heavy blows. That seemed to reinvigorate the Devils, who outscored them 8-1 at halftime and took the lead on a Timo Meier goal.

The Devils gave up their offense in the third to make sure they limited Florida’s ability to get into high-danger zones. They did this successfully on about 15 minutes and Paul Cotter scored a great insurance goal, slotting one past Spencer Knight.

Knight went to the bench for an extra attacker and the Devils took it out on a flurry of blocked shots, leading to Ondrej Palat empty-handed to close it out. That is now the eighth (!!) straight game in which the Devils have allowed three goals or less. They will meet the Panthers again in the same building on Thursday.
