Devin Haney says he still plans to sue Ryan Garcia over his PED test for their April 20 fight, but he’s also confident there will be a rematch.

This whole idea of Haney suing Ryan might backfire, kill the golden goose and make him not want to give him a second chance.
If Haney is still hoping to get a rematch with Ryan, suing him is the wrong way to go about it. A lawsuit could jeopardize Haney’s chances of a rematch. Haney’s main goal is to get a rematch with Ryan, but he also wants to sue him. Will that work for him?
Devin refuses to say what kind of money he expects to win in the case against Ryan Garcia. For now, Haney is sitting idle, which will cost him money and could hurt his career more than losing Ryan.
If the money Haney is likely to receive in a lawsuit against Ryan is significantly less than what he would receive in a rematch with him, you have to wonder if he’s doing the right thing.
Haney is seeking bloody revenge for his fight with PEDs in their fight last April in Brooklyn, New York. He relinquished his WBC light welterweight title after being ordered to defend it against Sandor Martin and is now ‘Champion in recess.’
Haney’s Pursuit of Justice
“Once you’re with a guy who’s taking PEDs, you’re not even on the playing field, and that kills everything,” Devin Haney said on Ariel Helwani’s YouTube channel, lamenting Ryan Garcia.
Haney does not say what he will do if he does not get a rematch with Ryan Garcia because that is not something he can force.
If Ryan chooses not to help Haney with the second fight because of his guilt, Devin will have to think about where he will go with his career because there is little chance of him regaining his lost title against WBC champion Alberto Puello.
“I want to pay him the money he made. In the ring, he took out the ring. We are not friends. Like I said, he’s going to pay for what he did in the ring, out of the ring, and I mean that in a lot of different ways.”
An Uncertain Future
Ryan and Gervonta Davis are the only ones Haney can fight for big bucks, but will they bother with him? Haney was arrested. In order to earn decent money, he has to fight against good opposition like Jaron Ennis and Teofimo, but he will probably lose to them, and his career will be over. He doesn’t want to take less pay days, so he’s in a tough spot.
Puello recently beat Gary Antuanne Russell, and based on the way he looked in that win, he’d beat Haney no problem.
Moving up to 147 would be the end for Haney because he’s a weak puncher and doesn’t have the chin to take howitzer shots from guys like Brian Norman Jr. and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
“All this cost me money. I lost money in this whole situation You will pay for everything. That’s one of the ways it ate me,” said Haney about the fact that the purse is lower for his WBC mandatory fight with Sandor Martin, which Devin chose not to take.
“Regarding the future battles, I lost it. I signed a fair fight contract where we do a drug test where I’m clean, and he’s clean, isn’t it,” Haney said when asked if he was still willing to sue Ryan Garcia. So, as I say, you have to pay for it.
Ryan may decide he doesn’t want anything to do with Haney, which puts him in a tough spot where he’ll have to look for someone else to give him the big payday he craves.
The only fighter Haney can make money fighting at 140 is Teofimo Lopez, and he’s not a PPV fighter. Teofimo fights on regular ESPN, and his career has failed to progress due to the loss to George Kambosos and the poor performance of other fighters.
“He didn’t stick to that. So, you will pay. You will pay in the ring. I want to bring it back to blood in the ring but outside the ring. I’m still a businessman, and this is a business. He failed five tests, and nobody’s going to lose a million dollars for something they didn’t do, right? When you lose a million, you own up to what you did,” said Haney.
