Surrey’s Annabel Dimmock completed her comeback from injury as she won her first Ladies European Tour title in five years after defeating Pauline Roussin-Bouchard in the final of the Women’s Irish Open.
Dimmock was two shots off the 54-hole mark and produced a three-under 70 to be in a playoff alongside the Frenchwoman on the O’Meara Course at Carton House.
The pair went back to 18 in the playoff and both made pars on the first hole, but on the second hole Roussin-Bouchard hit a 3-wood, however, it went left deep and he had to par. and ended up making bogey.
Meanwhile, Dimmock – back from eight months out with a thumb injury – went down the fairway with his driver and left himself two putts to win as he rolled his putt two feet to protect him. the second subject AKE.
“I’m a bit shocked at the moment,” said Dimmock, whose mother is from Cork. “I’m standing here and I think I’m literally in a dream. I’m just amazed and over the moon right now.
“It’s great to do it in Ireland. The fans that were there and the people watching were amazing to me this week and they really cheered me on. That’s what I needed because I didn’t have it easy for a few weeks.”
Dimmock started the final day well as he birdied his first two holes but dropped a shot on the 12th hole.
A birdie at 13 saw her just one shot behind Roussin-Bouchard then she rolled in another birdie at 17 in her round of 70 and finished alongside the Frenchwoman on 19-under-par.
Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom finished her week with another round of 69 for an 18-under-par total and missing the playoff by one shot to finish the week in third place.
