Donovan Mitchell Status Closely Monitored Teams

The Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. However, that doesn’t stop other teams from monitoring the situation with All-Star shooting guard, Donovan Mitchell, despite reports that he wants to stay in Cleveland.

“The NBA, especially starting with what Donovan said at the end of the season, is paying close attention because many teams would like to make a big contribution to the Cavs if Donovan doesn’t choose to extend his contract,” said Brian Windhorst.

Mitchell was non-committal when asked about his future with the Cleveland Cavaliers so far. He can become a free agent if he declines his player option this coming summer. Donovan Mitchell has already been the subject of plenty of trade talk all season. Even if the Cavaliers make the postseason this year, they won’t stop.

Donovan Mitchell’s Situation With The Cleveland Cavaliers Is Closely Viewed

Donovan Mitchell’s playoff run with Cleveland

One can understand why the Cleveland Cavaliers would want to sign the five-time All-Star to a long-term extension. During his tenure with the Cavaliers, he averaged 27.5 points, 1.6 steals, 4.3 total rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. In addition, the one-time All-NBA Team member has averaged an efficient field goal percentage of 56.0 percent during his two-year tenure with Cleveland.

He also posted a 22.6 career efficiency rating, a plus/minus box rating of +6.1, and a true shooting percentage of 60.6 percent during his tenure in Cleveland. Given the Cavaliers’ positive projections for the future with Mitchell and their young backcourt, one can see why the team is clamoring for him to sign an extension. However, money and space talk in this league and there will certainly be a few big market teams ready to make a big offer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. As for Cleveland, they can’t afford to lose Donovan Mitchell for free in return for free.

Potentially Suitable Guardians of the Shooting Stars

As always, the Los Angeles Lakers are always in the news whenever a popular player wants to be snapped up. Especially with the future of the Lakers being discussed with LeBron James. Another team that could make an offer is the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn has a lot of young talent to offer Cleveland and Mitchell is from New York. Surprisingly, the New York Knicks are not the only team with the right gift as they are focused on trying to win the Eastern Conference. Still, Donovan Mitchell will garner plenty of interest regardless of this offseason.
