Along with our Scotto report on the Hawks possibly breaking their backcourt, Shams Charania and reported that if Murray’s partner, Trae YoungIt doesn’t sound like Atlanta is committed to keeping a winner around, a trade request could follow the former Oklahoma standout

Young’s longtime destination, the San Antonio Spurs, may not be as interested, according to. Jake Fischer:

San Antonio’s staff would be doing the front office a disservice by not considering the opportunity to combine the league’s assist leader and top scorer like Young to pair with Wembanyama. The Spurs have so far approached the building around Wembanyama as an interesting experiment, where they will measure all sorts of variables in their Rookie of the Year. However, according to multiple league figures with knowledge of the situation, any plans by the Spurs to bring Young to San Antonio have been largely overruled. The Spurs, sources say, have expressed little interest in acquiring Young so far.

Fischer also reported that teams might prefer to trade Garland over Young, an interesting debate between two of the league’s best guards.

Young has the same contract as Garland except his deal expires one year earlier and has a player option on it for the final year, one in 2026-27 worth $49.0 million. If both Young and Garland are subject to trade, the level of interest among suitors may boil down to which players teams think will age well on their big contracts.
