Duleep Trophy squads – Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik ruled out due to illness; Ravindra Jadeja has been withdrawn
The injury-free Saini, who played two Tests on India’s 2020-21 tour of Australia, has been given a chance to get back on the selectors’ radar ahead of the Test season. He was part of India A’s two four-day series last season – one against the England Lions at home and one in South Africa in December – but failed to take more than one wicket in any of the four innings he bowled.
Nitish Kumar Reddy’s participation will continue to be on a fitness level, a BCCI statement said, as he continues to recover from sports hernia surgery.
The first round of the Duleep Trophy will be played simultaneously in Anantapur and Bengaluru from September 5.
Originally a regional competition involving teams from five (and later six) regions, the format of the Duleep Trophy has changed several times over the past few seasons, and will be a four-team competition this time around. As the second round will coincide with the home series against Bangladesh starting on September 19, the players selected for the Tests will be picked.
