Having reached the Last 16 of Euro 2024, England face Slovakia as they aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Gareth Southgate and his players faced adversity during the group games, England did not do well even though they topped Group C. They won 1-0 beating Serbia 1-0 followed by a draw with Denmark and Slovenia, with the Three Lions only conceding two goals. Euro 2024 so far.
There are not many positives to be taken from the group stage but at least England have reached the last 16 of another major tournament and avoided an embarrassing slide.
Slovakia kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign in style with a 1-0 win over Belgium that handed them their first major upset of the tournament. Despite that win, they had to finish third after losing to Ukraine and drawing with Romania in their last two games.

England were without a few players for Euro 2024 due to injury, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell missing out on the tournament. While Luke Shaw has been called up to Southgate’s squad and has gone to Germany, he will still play for the Three Lions despite strengthening his recovery.
The left-back returned to full training in England shortly before the one-goal draw against Slovenia, meaning he could be in the Last 16. However, there is no guarantee he will start as he has been sidelined since February.
Elsewhere, England have no fresh injury concerns, although Southgate may make changes to his starting line-up due to recent poor performances.
England predicted to face Slovakia (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier; Mainoo, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Foden; Four times.
Slovakia are unlikely to make many changes to the side that secured a crucial point against Romania on Wednesday. Ondrej Duda, who scored Slovakia’s only goal in the game, is a slight injury doubt in midfield, but should be ready to play.
Alternatively, Francesco Calzona has no injury concerns ahead of the clash with the Three Lions, but he could miss striker Robert Bozenik in the starting line-up ahead of David Strelec.
Slovakia predicted to face England (4-3-3): Dubravka; Pekarik, Vavro, Skriniar, Hancko; Kucka, Lobotka, Duda; Schranz, Bozenik, Haraslin.
If the group stage has taught us anything about these two teams, it is that we should not expect high scores on Sunday. No team has scored more than one goal in any game so far and they have scored just five goals between them – three of which have come from Slovakia.
England have kept a low profile and faced the prospect of Slovakia’s low block made up of strong defenders. This usually spells trouble for Southgate’s team, as the Three Lions coach failed to give his team an opportunity to attack in Germany.
England should win, but they are unlikely to be satisfied based on what we have already seen.
