Erik ten Hag compared Rashford to a bottle of ketchup after the Southampton goal
Erik ten Hag refers to Cristiano Ronaldo Ketchup bottle analogy after Marcus Rashford got back on the scoresheet against Southampton.
Rashford’s goal in United’s 3-0 win against Saints on Saturday afternoon was not only his first of the season, but his first in 12 games in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been criticized for his performances over the past 12 months and has been involved in a number of incidents off the pitch, but Ten Hag and United will be hoping this goal will spark Rashford back to life.
Rashford as a bottle of ketchup
Rashford has struggled to regain the form that saw him score 30 goals in all competitions in the 2022/2023 campaign.
The English player has been criticized by fans and commentators for his performance, and it is believed that Rashford feels that the media has mistreated him.
Ten Hag have stuck with the striker despite his poor form and will feel his decision has been vindicated following his goal against Southampton.
Speaking after the game, the Dutchman spoke about Ronaldo’s ketchup bottle and hopes Rashford can still score goals.
“There was a striker talking about a bottle of ketchup, when it goes, it comes more,” he said while talking to reporters after the game.
“We don’t pay attention to what outsiders say [us]but it was too bad for him because he created two good chances, 100% chances in that game and in other games.
“He was playing very well and it was worth the goal, then you get your reward.
“He scored a good goal and for his age the number of goals he has is amazing, I am sure he will score more goals.
“Going into the season for every striker it is very important to be on the score sheet to build momentum, build confidence and more goals will come.”
Next up for Rashford and the Ten Hag is a Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley at Old Trafford on Tuesday night before a trip to Crystal Palace on September 21.
