Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has extended his contract at Old Trafford until 2026.
The Dutchman was entering the final year of his current contract and under pressure after guiding the club to a Premier League worst finish of eighth.
However, the option to extend his stay for another season was exercised following an end-of-season review by the club’s owners after the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Although they have spoken to a number of potential replacements and have been heavily linked with the likes of Gareth Southgate, they have decided to back the former Ajax manager, 54, who won silverware two seasons ago.
The team is determined to reorganize outside the field as there are rumors that former Red Devils striker and former PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy may return to the team as one of the ten coaching staff.
ten Hag told the club’s website: “I am very happy to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together.
“If we look back over the past two years, we can think with pride of two trophies and many examples of progress where we were when I joined.”

ten Haag, however, warned United fans that there is still a long way to go before they return to the glory days, saying: “We must also be clear that there is still a lot of hard work to be done to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means the challenge in the English and European titles.
“In my discussions with the team, we found complete unity in our vision to achieve those goals, and we are all very committed to making that journey together.”
Dan Ashworth, United’s Sporting Director, added: “With two trophies in the last two seasons, Erik has cemented his record as one of the most successful managers in European football.
“Although the review of the team last season highlighted areas to improve, it also came to the clear conclusion that Erik was the best partner to work with in improving quality and results.
“This group of players and staff have shown that they can compete and win at a high level; now we need to do it consistently.
“With our strong football leadership team now in place, we look forward to working with Erik to achieve our ambitions for this club.”
