Essex sign Ethan Bosch for T20 Blast and Daniel Sams to return home for knee surgery

Essex have signed Eathan Bosch for the second half of their Vitality T20 Blast campaign after Australian Daniel Sams was ruled out through injury.

Sams, who was the Blast’s MVP in 2023 as Essex finished as runners-up to Somerset, injured his knee against Sussex during the first block of the club’s games. Since he needs surgery, he will now return home instead of staying until the end of Blast as planned.

Speaking to Essex’s YouTube channel, he said the injury could require a “four to six month recovery”, which could affect his availability for the 2024-25 Big Bash League.

“It was good [to come back here],” said Sams after his third stint in Chelmsford. “My wife and I really enjoy being back here, and we’ve made really good friends with the guys and their partners.

“Of course. I’ve been unlucky throughout my career with injuries, so I’ll have to go home now and recover as best I can.”

Sams has taken seven wickets in six games this season, which was instrumental in Essex’s run to Final Day last summer. They are currently sixth in fourth place in the South Group, with five wins from eight games.

Bosch, 26, has been brought in for four Championship matches and has claimed eight wickets at 24.12 in two matches. A former South African Under 19, he has experience playing in the SA20 for the Pretoria Capitals.

Essex are next up when they welcome defending champions Somerset to Chelmsford on Friday night.
