Euro 2024: Romania v Netherlands

Game preview

Romania will hope to continue their impressive progress at Euro 2024 by beating the Netherlands in the round of 16 tomorrow.

Edward Iordănescu’s men topped Group E, advancing them to face the Dutch side who managed to manage third place in Group D.

Iordănescu said: “I don’t know what we can do in the future but we are very happy that we have reached the next stage. We want to go where we can. We are facing an amazing and very difficult opponent. We all know this. But we also know that we will do what we always do: give everything on the field.”

The Netherlands have failed to shine so far despite coming through a tough group that included France, Austria and Poland.

Striker Memphis Depay says the club have held several discussions about where improvements are needed and now they are looking forward.

“The competition is just starting now,” said Depay, who is on a free transfer after leaving Atletico Madrid.

“We have to make sure we learn from our mistakes. We have had discussions and criticized each other and it is normal to have arguments when the results do not go the way you want them to go. It makes sense that there would be resentment.

“But that’s behind us now. There is a good atmosphere in the team.”
