Every Tour player uses a Callaway driver – and why Xander Schauffele stands out with his choice

Xander Schauffele remains the only PGA Tour professional to use the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver.

Callaway’s new family of Paradym Ai Smoke drivers hit the USGA Consensus List earlier in the year and shortly thereafter Schauffele took over the club.

What is surprising is that he stands alone in that regard.

Four different Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke drivers were available to PGA TOUR players to test drive at the Plantation Course in Kapalua ahead of the season-opening Sentry.

These include Schauffele’s choice Triple Diamond (compact, low head profile), Triple Diamond Max (the largest model), Triple Diamond S (the smallest model), and the Max head, which has a large head. profile and smooth weight on the back of the head.

Callaway PGA TOUR Rep and professional golfer Kellen Watson ranked Schauffele with Triple Diamond, which was exciting but saw him improve significantly in his driving stats.

Schauffele has always been aggressive so it might follow that he would want something more forgiving, but, as Watson explains, the movement was about reinforcing the disintegration of those around him.

“At the end of November, I went down to The Grove and I was fit [Xander Schauffele]and his swing rates were about 30 percent stronger, shot for shot, compared to the Paradym,” Watson told GolfWRX.com in Hawaii.

“And Paradym wasn’t bad either. Forgiveness has a different meaning for these guys compared to consumers, doesn’t it? When PGA TOUR players miss the center of the face — and it’s rare — they miss by a millimeter or two.

“So, for them, it’s about reinforcing the difference between the amount of spin from shot to shot. This face is fast everywhere, but we want spin rates to be within the 200-300 rpm window, and I think that’s what we’re seeing based on feedback and working with each player.”

Watson expected Triple Diamond to take off with the Callaway crew, but that’s still far from over.

“The Triple Diamond itself is going to be more of a model when it comes to touring use, but there are a couple of guys who have done some work on our Max version, which is our lightweight, single-weight version up front,” Watson said.

“Harry Hall and Alex Noren, for example, both liked it. They really liked the speed in this Max version compared to what you saw last year. The speed just increased from the last few repetitions, big, because usually what you see with a big driver and big steps is to see a high launch, you see a lot of swings, and you see a little bit of ball speed coming out of it, but to maintain or gain ball speed compared to what you’ve seen in the past is huge…my guess is that there will be four models that will be played on the PGA TOUR this year.”

It will be interesting to note if this changes and more players take the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver.
