Exclusive: Manchester United’s ‘aggressive’ transfer approach won’t waste effort, says expert

Manchester United are ‘aggressive’ in their approach to a move for Lille defender Leny Yoro, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Specially speaking CaughtOffside in his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Man Utd had a bid accepted by Lille for the young French defender, but Real Madrid still believe they are the favorites for the deal.

Yoro himself wants to join Real Madrid, so the Spanish giants remain optimistic about their chances, and are ready to wait for the player if necessary, rather than paying and meeting Lille’s demands for the 18-year-old player this summer.

Obviously, from Lille’s point of view, they want to avoid the possibility of losing Yoro on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer, so they are now pushing the youngster to accept the chance to join United.

Romano does not believe this will be a waste for MUFC, even if they can’t persuade Yoro to join them at Real, the club is showing its ‘aggressive’ transfer strategy.

Yoro transfer: Man United’s aggressive approach praised by Romano

Leny Yoro’s Manchester United bid has been accepted by Lille

“Another big issue yesterday was Man United’s official request for Leny Yoro, which was accepted by Lille,” said Romano.

“Club president Olivier Letang wants Yoro to join Man United, as that is the best offer they have on the table – €50m plus add-ons that could take the deal up to €60m.

“Therefore, Man United is offering a lot of money to Lille to wait for all the other clubs, but now the decision is Yoro’s. Lille hope he will decide to go to Old Trafford, but Real Madrid are still there, they are still confident and they feel they are still in charge. Why? Because Real Madrid have been very clear – the only way to close the deal is in their circumstances, they will not pay Yoro more if he is out of contract next summer.

“Real Madrid are ready to wait to make a deal on their terms, or close the deal on a free transfer next summer because they know that Yoro will not sign a new contract and that he wants to join Real Madrid.

“Now it’s up to Yoro and his decision – will he accept Man United or wait for Real Madrid? Real Madrid knows that Yoro’s dream is to play for them, and Man United will not wait forever because they are looking for other defenders and they do not want this to be something that drags on all summer.

“Man United wanted to try and show ambition, so it’s not a wasted effort or a bad thing, in my opinion. They tried to be ‘aggressive’ in a positive way, trying to show their intentions…now it’s Yoro’s turn.”
