Exclusive: Newcastle were mixed with Arsenal academy graduates as pundit laments transfer

Newcastle United have been linked with Brighton in the transfer mix for Arsenal youngster Amario Cozier-Duberry this summer, according to Charles Watts.

The Gunners reporter, talking to himself CaughtOffside in his latest column for the Daily Briefing, he made it clear that he was disappointed to see the talented local player leave the Emirates Stadium, although he thinks Brighton could also be a good move for him.

It seems that Arsenal tried to offer Cozier-Duberry a new contract, but he chose instead to try a new move elsewhere, and it will be interesting to see if he made the right decision to go to Brighton over Newcastle.

The 19-year-old looks set to have a big future in the game, even if it is too early for anyone to predict how he will proceed with this new challenge in the Premier League.

It looks like it’s something Arsenal fans and pundits like Watts will continue to look forward to, though.

Arsenal’s Amario Cozier-Duberry

The Cozier-Duberry transfer decision hurts Arsenal, Watts said

“Losing Amario Cozier-Duberry was a blow this summer,” Watts said.

“Arsenal wanted to keep him and they made what they saw as a good offer for a young player. Apparently, Cozier-Duberry and his representatives decided his future was better served elsewhere, though, and that’s fine with them and Brighton looks like a good move for a young player who has shown how much talent he has.

“There was another interest. Newcastle were in the mix, as were clubs from Germany, but I consider Brighton a smart choice.

“It is difficult to say right now whether he will continue to play in the Premier League. That’s just impossible to predict at this stage. But what I can say is what I have seen from him, he definitely has the ability to continue to be successful at the highest level.

“He has to keep doing what he’s doing and take the opportunity when it comes. And you have to admit that that chance is much more likely to come to Brighton than Arsenal. “
