FABIAN Rojo is eager to extend his unbeaten record to 9-0 when the Phoenix southpaw heavyweight beats Daniel Gonzalez later tonight. At just 22 years old, Rojo is busy ticking the boxes for jobs, including forcing his way into big local shows.
“I am very proud and happy to be on such a card. I’m nervous, but the feeling is good. See I know they will help me get through this fight, look good and find that success. Everyone will be here to support me. I feel love, I feel support and that makes me stronger. It’s the support that makes me feel so strong for the future,” he said Debate News on yesterday’s scale.
“We are doing very well, I am coming forward and I am very happy to fight. My preparation went very well, I worked really hard. I had a good sparring and I know I’m ready.”
Simply winning the belt against Gonzalez, an angry Albuquerque campaigner who already knows what it’s like to taste defeat, won’t be enough. Rojo is ready to reintroduce that feeling of losing to him on the undercard and look good doing it.
“It’s a good card and it’s very important to win, but it’s also important to look good doing it. I want to make everyone feel proud and happy and good. It’s going to be a big fight. I worked a lot on my footwork, my head movement and defense. I know I’m here to show everyone,” he added.
Preparing for the two lightweight champions later in the evening, Rojo takes a look at the fighters and styles that motivate him to perform better.
“There are many who fight well. I really like Victor Ortiz. Also, I know Lomachenko is not Mexican, but I really like his style. His angles, his movements. I practice a lot.”
Speaking of angles and movements, Bam Rodriguez has masterfully trained them. Meanwhile, Estrada masters the closing distance and quickly raises the dial, round after round. The main event is unlikely to disappoint.
“It’s a good fight,” admitted Fabian Rojo. “Gallo has a great style and I know Bam comes in ready to bring the heat. Both are ready and I think it will be a good fight.”
