Former Arsenal player doubts Mikel Arteta’s role at the club
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has questioned Mikel Arteta’s role as club manager after failing to win another Premier League title.
Despite amassing an incredible 89 points, the most ever by a club in Premier League history, the Gunners still narrowly missed out on their first title in two decades, finishing two points behind Manchester City.
Although many fans were firm believers that Arteta’s role at the club should be in doubt if they failed to win silverware at the start of the season, the club’s good form has kept them optimistic about the near future as it has passed.
However, not everyone is completely sold on the Spanish boss as the former goalkeeper, Lehmann said he is ‘not sure’ about Arteta.
Jens Lehmann ‘not sure’ about Mikel Arteta
“Mikel Arteta has done very well in bringing Arsenal up but if he is the right man for Arsenal now … I don’t know for sure,” he told The Telegraph.
‘Look at the coach’s personality. Are you a winner or a good guy who gets you to a certain level and then it’s over?’
The German stopper was part of the Invincibles, the last team to win the Premier League from the Gunners 20 years ago.
With the season now over, Arsenal fans will be focusing on the summer window as they await major arrivals to help give them a chance for the next campaign.
At the top of that list will be the addition of a new striker, whether he will come as a striker or a goal scorer.
The latest and most prominent name to be linked with the North London club has been Benjamin Sesko who has impressed for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old player will be one to watch at the European Championships in Slovenia, which will begin its campaign against Denmark next Sunday.
