Former England skipper James Anderson declares Virat Kohli the greatest run-getter in cricket history
In the latest episode of the Tailenders Podcast, England’s veteran cricketer James Anderson it was praised by the Indian batting star Virat Kohlicalling him “the greatest pacer of all time” in the history of cricket. Anderson’s comments come in tribute to Kohli’s impressive record as he chases the targets in his cricket career.
James Anderson hails Virat Kohli as the best pacer
Kohli, who is world-renowned for his impressive performance under pressure, has amassed 7,852 runs in successful chases, making him the second highest run-scorer in such situations, only behind him. Sachin Tendulkarwith 8,720 runs in the same conditions. Anderson highlighted Kohli’s remarkable consistency and ability in these high-scoring moments.
“I don’t know if there has been a better batsman in the history of the game at batting second and chasing runs than Virat Kohli, his chase record is absolutely amazing. The number of hundreds he scored in the second innings, chasing scores is ridiculous,” Anderson said.
When asked if Kohli was the greatest white-ball finisher of all time, Anderson clarified that he was referring specifically to Kohli’s exceptional target-chasing record, rather than his white-ball finishing skills. He agreed to the Australian one Michael Bevan as a popular complement.
“I can’t say that. “I was thinking a lot about just chasing, Bevan was just coming in sixth and doing the job,” commented Anderson.

Anderson highlights Kohli’s chasing ability and finishing ability
Anderson noted that while Kohli often scored big while batting at number three to chase down goals, Bevan was known for his ability to score crucial 50s and 60s as a lower-order batsman. Despite this, Anderson admitted that he cannot think of a better finisher or white bowler than Kohli.
“Kohli who bats at number 3 gets those big ones while Bevan is famous for getting 50s, 60s and being in the end, while Kohli gets big scores, to get his teams over the line. I honestly can’t think of a better finisher and a bigger white ball player than him [Kohli],” the former bowler added.
Anderson’s insight not only highlights Kohli’s unrivaled chase record but also his unique ability to adapt and thrive in critical game situations, cementing his status as one of the greatest white-ball players in cricket history.
