Golf Business News – Carrick Design to build new mountain course in British Colombia
Construction will begin on the new Doug Carrick-designed course in Canada early next year, with ‘The Dodger’ at Hallo Nelson in British Columbia scheduled to open in 2027.
The 18-hole, par-70 championship course is located on 130 acres of beautiful prairie overlooking Kootenay Lake and surrounded by the Selkirk Mountains, and is slated to be the first to be hosted by Troon in Canada.
Carrick, widely recognized as one of Canada’s pre-eminent course designers, continues his mission to design exciting golf courses that will stand the test of time while giving golfers the feeling of being a great player.
“I am very excited to be involved in the design of the new Hallo Nelson hillside golf course,” said Carrick, principal architect of Carrick Design. “Working with my clients Graham Kwan and Farhad Ebrahimi, and their talented team of architects, planners and engineers, has been incredibly engaging, as the team brings their vision for the space to life.
“The golf course will have the most amazing views and the most amazing elevation changes of any course I’ve seen anywhere in the world. The individual golf holes are on a variable course, gradually rising up the hill presenting various views and interesting golf pictures. The tall evergreen trees and sculpted bunkers will give this course a sense of timeless elegance and beauty. I have no doubt it will be a golf course on the bucket list of many golfers when visiting Western Canada.”
Dodger at Hallo Nelson will see the former course opened in 1920 reborn as a staple of Nelson’s summer entertainment and community heritage. With the level of service and performance provided by Troon’s world-class team of professionals, the mountain golf course will be a key feature of Hallo Nelson, joined by the many other outdoor and winter activities known as the Kootenay region, and included. with year-round Troon-owned hospitality in a new clubhouse, new restaurants and boutique shops, and unique accommodations and mountain homes.
Jim McLaughlin, President of TCS Division, a Troon-based company, said: “The Hallo properties team has found a property that will be one of the best golf courses in Canada. Combining the incredible design of Doug Carrick with our knowledge and expertise in operating and marketing high quality golf properties is an exciting endeavor. Our shared goal is to make Dodger at Hallo Nelson the Troon-owned destination of Western Canada.”
Dodger is an integral part of the $500m master-planned community, characterized by residential and amenity spaces that complement Nelson’s magnetic beauty, people and culture. Overlooking The Dodger’s first highway, Hallo Nelson’s premier real estate offering The First Homes, a collection of 24 fully furnished townhomes, is now available for purchase.

Our location south of other western Canadian golf courses allows us to open early and close later each season,” said Graham Kwan, Hallo Nelson’s Principal of Development.
“As the only Troon-operated golf course in all of Canada, we also expect The Dodger to be very attractive to our First Homes buyers, whose home ownership extends access to other Troon-owned courses around the world through the company’s Troon Advantage program. .”
