Golf Business News – Cobra introduces King Black Edition Tour irons
Cobra Golf’s new KING BLACK EDITION TOUR irons, on sale from October 18, are aimed at professional golfers who value high levels of feel and shot shaping ability.
The King Tour, originally introduced in chrome, now features a Diamondized Black Metal finish that diffuses sunlight, while offering extreme wear resistance for longer-lasting, better-looking irons.
Like their chrome counterparts, the KING Black Edition Tour irons are forged from 1025 carbon steel using Cobra’s five-step forging process. While other forged irons traditionally use a four-step process, the COBRA uses a fifth forging strike to deliver an unmatched soft feel and precise shaping.
The molding process begins by heating carbon steel billets to 1,200° Celsius. The billets are then roughened and triple shaped (steps 1-3), a process in which the metal is bent and shaped to form the shape of the metal head. Step Four involves applying 1,200 tons of pressure at 800°c to each rough clubhead, shaping and placing detail lines and logos. During the final fifth step, each metal head is subjected to a pressure of 2,000 tons at 700°c, creating a very uniform grain structure. After cooling, each clubhead is polished and prepared so that the faces and holes are precision milled using a CNC machine.
Jose Miraflor, Vice President of Product Architecture & Consumer Connections at Cobra, said: “Cobra has been on a mission to create the strongest black color in the market. These are not just instruments; they are a statement. It’s a testament to our mission to not only create the most functional technology in the game, but the best looking and the most fun.”
The benefits of the 5-step molding process include more accurate shaping, tighter weight tolerance, improved loft and lie consistency, improved face stiffness flexibility, improved aesthetics and reduced shine, and greatly improved feel at impact.
BLACK KING EDITION tour (£1,129/7-piece set)
The Tour edition instruments combine softer feel and playability with improved distance and forgiveness. The key to improved forgiveness and optimal performance is the CNC cutouts in the back hole of each iron, which allow weight to be repositioned from the top to the bottom center as well as the heel and toe areas of the clubhead, creating improved launch conditions and more forgiveness when off. – center hits.
These holes progress from deeper in the long irons for improved stability to deeper in the short irons for better control. To improve the feel, each CNC undercut is filled with a soft TPU material and filled with an aluminum medal joint, which dampens vibrations with a more pleasant sound and tactile sensation.
The TOUR model also has 2° stronger lofts than the CB and MB irons at explosive distance from the face. They are available in 3i-GW (RH/LH), while the stock set is offered in 4-PW with RH only. LH sets are available for customization.
