Golf Business News – Legends Tour appoints new head of commissions
The Legends Tour has appointed seasoned journalist and broadcaster James Haddock as its new Head of Media and Communications.
The Sky Sports Golf presenter, aged 49, will help develop and drive the Tour’s message and brand across established golf markets and a wider audience to engage golf fans around the world.
Haddock has started working with the Legends Tour and brings over 30 years of UK sports journalism experience with him. He spent more than 20 years working for Sky Sports covering various sports and Sky Sports News before focusing on golf from 2008.
A respected journalist, Haddock has worked in the UK media industry since 1994 and has been part of several award-winning teams across print, radio and tv formats.
Already a well-known figure among Legends Tour members, he has worked with many during his golf and Sky Sports career, and is a welcome addition to the Legends Tour team as the Tour looks to expand its global reach.
Commenting on his appointment, Haddock said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Legends Tour as they look to make big moves in the golf market over the next few years. For me, reconnecting with many of the players I’ve worked with over the past twenty years, is a real treat – it’s like an old school reunion, but better!
“The Legends Tour has a stellar line-up – the players are a pillar and a huge asset to the Tour, I’m so excited to be working with them and telling their stories. I’m excited to learn more about how I can help the Legends Tour build on its initial success and grow in stature. If you look at the last few years, it’s already at a high level – it’s going up fast, and I hope to play my part in helping that continue. “
Keith Mitchell, Chief Marketing Officer of the Legends Tour, said: “James is a great asset for us to have as we embark on a period of expansion. We already have a schedule that includes 20 events across four continents and a prize fund of over €18m.
“James’ ability to get to the heart of the story, build relationships with the players, and ensure that those we work with in the media get what they need from us, is part of the development of this Tour. His addition to our team helps us grow and deliver on our long-term vision as a truly global tour and convey our message to all golf fans in new and engaging ways. Much has been achieved, but there is still more to come!”
