Golf Business News – ReelGOLF offers an additional income stream with real-time challenges on the courses
REELGolf, a US-based technology company that can track nearby tournaments and other challenges in real time with a live video camera system, has begun rolling out its new system to golf clubs around the world.
Players who have tee times at Carter Plantation in Louisiana, USA, are the first golfers to be able to use this new technology, and now have the option of playing the daily challenges of the course such as Closest-to-the-Pin or ‘Ring of Fire’ for a chance to win cash prizes.
The ReelGOLF system includes intelligently placing AI-powered Bosch cameras near the tee boxes and greens of the par-3 holes, allowing players to scan a QR code to activate the system.
ReelGOLF then records the shot, adds image tracking with player names, courses, and sponsor logos, and sends high-definition video to the player’s phone within minutes to share on social media — or not.
That AI-powered video technology is used to detect and measure the distance of the golf ball to the pin less than half the ball (18mm), making accurate and automatic measurements on 3 holes.
Players who choose to enter the pro shop at the ReelGOLF kiosk upon entry will have access to two tier 3 contests: Closest-to-the-Pin and Ring of Fire (the closer the shot is to the pin, the more money the player makes). The player then activates the token on their phone when they reach the par 3 challenge area and take their best shot.
While Ring of Fire alerts players to their wins immediately after their shot, those playing the Cedest-to-the-Pin challenge can keep tabs on the leaderboard on their smartphone. At the end of the day, the top three players receive a notification from ReelGOLF to collect the winnings.
Carter Plantation in Springfield is the first course in the world to feature the ReelGOLF Challenge system, dedicated to allowing golf course owners and operators to create an alternative source of income, as players are required to pay a small fee to enter each tournament. Although courses make a percentage of each token purchased, they don’t have to lift a finger for the rest – ReelGOLF handles it all.
Kevin Imes, creator of ReelGOLF, said: “Our advanced AI technology ensures accurate measurements and captures unforgettable moments for players, all of which create new revenue streams for courses. We are excited to see how this innovation changes the way golfers engage with the challenges of the 3rd category.”
Earlier this year, ReelGOLF entered into a marketing partnership with online sportsbook BetMGM, which is now helping to promote its course challenges. Any player who registers with BetMGM using a promo code ReelGOLF can now play Ring of Fire for free for one month.
“Partnering with ReelGOLF is a great opportunity for Carter Plantation. It will allow us to enhance tournament play and host marketing opportunities and give golfers a new way to engage with our courses during daily rounds,” said Alex Boudreaux, general manager at Carter Plantation.
“Commemorative videos help preserve lasting memories, strengthen academic credibility, and generate organic publicity for Carter as the videos are shared. ReelGOLF is revolutionizing the game of golf, and we’re excited to be a part of it from the beginning.”
ReelGOLF also works with courses in Missouri, Florida and California in the US, as well as clubs in Scotland and Ireland, all of which will have plans to play before the end of the year.
