Graeme McDowell suspended for one LIV Golf a tournament in violation of the anti-doping policy of the Saudi-sponsored circuit.
The former US Open champion was also fined 125,000 US dollars (£98,000) after using a performance-enhancing drug containing the banned substance R-methamphetamine (levo-methamphetamine).
McDowell’s results, and those of his team, from LIV Golf Nashville will also be canceled. The Northern Irishman will miss this week’s event in West Virginia and is eligible to return to action in Chicago next month.

In a statement released on social media, McDowell wrote: “Prior to LIV Nashville, I was having trouble sleeping.
“In an attempt to control it, I used the usual Vicks decongestant without realizing that it might be on the banned list.
“As a professional golfer, I understand the importance of testing all medications and the option of applying for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
“Unfortunately, I didn’t think to do this because the drug was not well-available and I deeply regret my oversight. I fully accept the sanctions imposed by LIV.
“LIV’s Anti-Doping Policy is designed to be clear and transparent. Unlike other tours, LIV strictly enforces these rules, which made this a challenge for me.
“However, I respect the need for these rules and penalties – they are important to maintain the integrity of the sport.
“I am proud of my 22-year career and the way I conducted myself. Now, I focus on going forward and going back golf course. I look forward to seeing everyone at LIV Chicago. “
McDowell’s spot on Smash GC this week will be filled by an as-yet-unnamed reserve player.
