Homa and Kisner’s exciting bet has yet to pay off

Two weeks ago, Kevin Kisner and Max Homa made an innocent bet. If Homa were to walk off the field during the Presidents Cup, Kisner promised to take his shirt off in celebration.
These types of antics aren’t commonplace in most golf clubs, but during team events, those norms are thrown out the window. Players Alison Lee and Megan Khang proved it a few weeks ago as they shed their shirts (and caddy bibs) in celebration of closing a hole in the Solheim Cup.
The incident quickly spread on social media, and became the inspiration for the Homa-Kisner Presidents Cup bet.
During Sunday’s highlight-reel game at Royal Montreal, Homa cashed in on the end of the deal.
On his first hole of the day in his match against Mackenzie Hughes, Homa birdied the sinker from 102 yards just beyond the pin and ripped it, straight to the cup for eagle.
Kisner’s offer may seem tongue-in-cheek, but earlier this week, Kisner doubled down on the bet. On Wednesday, during a pre-event press conference, a reporter asked Kisner about direct betting.
“If Max Homa pulls one, will you follow up on your tweet to take your shirt off?”
“I’m really hoping that later in the week – I hope it’s later in the week because, if I had to take my shirt off today, it would be pretty brutal out there,” Kisner said, referring to the cold weather earlier in the week. “But, yes, I’m ready for that.”
However, the time really came when Homa closed his way closer to 1 on Sunday afternoon.
A few minutes after Homa’s eagle, NBC (for whom Kisner worked on and off the entire season as a commentator) cut to a live interview between Smylie Kaufman and a red-faced Kisner.
“You know motivation is a wonderful thing, and I think Max took it to heart,” Kisner said. “I’ve been with him for two games, he doesn’t play a single one, then I go to see him play for the first time and he shuts it down. I think he’s been yelling at every captain he’s seen since – because I didn’t see him – ‘Where’s Kiz?’
“So I hid here after nine.”
It seems that Kisner will avoid Homa as long as possible, but he can still make things right by paying during what looks like an American victory party.
