How England will play under Jurgen Klopp
As England continues to search for a new coach to replace Gareth Southgate, fans have pointed directly to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
There can be no complaining about boring football for the German in charge, and who better to lead the England team than someone who has spent years making waves in the Premier League – especially given that he is now out of a job.
If he is to be appointed England manager, here is how Klopp might organize the team.
Good news Aaron Ramsdale, you’re back in the starting lineup! The Arsenal star endured a difficult season, losing his place at club level to new signing David Raya before spending the summer in Germany stuck on the bench.
But with Klopp in charge, Ramsdale may finally get his chance to shine, with the German opting for a goalkeeper of his caliber. Jordan Pickford is Liverpool’s enemy after that memorable challenge on Virgil van Dijk in 2020 and Klopp may not be willing to let that slide just yet.
Ramsdale is better with his feet, something Klopp will no doubt like. Pack your bags Aaron, you’re on a plane.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s midfield experiment didn’t work for England, so let’s put him in that right-back spot.
Klopp knows how good this player is, and would have no problem reviving his England career on the international stage. He is a skillful player who has been molded into the type of asset that Klopp can use.
If he is in charge, he can fit more into that hybrid midfielder role. He wants a place in this group.
As he did at Liverpool, Jarell Quansah finds a place at the back next to Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds star was named as part of Southgate’s first team for the tournament in Germany, but failed to make the final selection for Euro 2024. Fear not, Quansah is earning a place in the squad, and has been promoted to starting centre-back.
He is a skilful, right-footed player who can easily make long passes to keep the game moving. Quansah would work well in England’s line-up, helping to keep the ball and put pressure on the opposition.
Jurgen Klopp knows talent when he sees it, and after Marc Guehi’s performance at Euro 2024, he has secured a place in the starting line-up.
Liverpool have actually been linked with the defender in the past, so here we can be given the chance to see how the Crystal Palace star would stack up against some of Anfield’s best defenders.
Guehi’s modesty stands out among his many talents, and with Klopp in charge, he could be one of the greatest leaders on the pitch.
Welcome Joe Gomez, the man who will solve England’s problem at left back.
Klopp has shown that he has no problem choosing his right foot to play on the left, and Gomez could be a reliable answer to cover the left side of the defence.
Gomez was another player forced to watch England’s Euros on the bench, despite being a good option to cover for the injured Luke Shaw when Kieran Trippier was unable to play.
He may not be everyone’s favourite, but under Klopp he will find that place at left back.
Declan Rice keeps his place in midfield. Any argument on this is wrong. Sorry, we don’t make the rules.
With Klopp’s preference for a 4-3-3 formation, Rice could fill the role that Fabinho used to excel at, sitting at the bottom of the midfield three. Fabinho’s reading of the game has always been a subject of praise, and in this role, Rice will be able to prove his football IQ.
When I was at Liverpool, the fight with Rice was not pleasant for Klopp. But having her by his side is the outcome he would most like.
Throw in Kobbie Mainoo in midfield and he will dominate the game with his excellent ball control. He can navigate spaces and be the chance creator England desperately need.
Mainoo would suit Klopp’s style of play, using his forward-thinking skills and quickness to speed up games. Pairing up with Rice in midfield would be a dream come true, and England fans will be desperate to see the duo back in action again.
Klopp, you know what to do.
Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson – these two alternate. Klopp would like someone like Gallagher in midfield, to replace the player he had with Henderson.
The work-rate of the man Chelsea would select, not to mention his ability to read games. He has endless energy, so he is always dangerous on the field.
England play fast, fast football when Gallagher is on the pitch, and in this three pitch he will be successful.
Jurgen Klopp has already named Jarrod Bowen as his favorite player, so it’s pretty safe to say he could find a place under the German.
Bowen boasts incredible ball handling skills, while winning fouls in dangerous areas of attack. He can create magic in open play and set pieces – making him a huge force in advanced play.
With Klopp in charge, not only will the ball hit home, but Bowen will be on fire.
Jude Bellingham will sit in front of the three midfield players, relishing the opportunity to shine as England’s best striker. Put him in as a number nine and he will replicate the magic that Roberto Firmino created for Liverpool.
Bellingham will have the opportunity to go down, while showing his ability to play and move forward as he did at Real Madrid.
With an England win under his belt, Bellingham really wasn’t going to quit.
Anthony Gordon will provide pace, goal threat and success for England. Welcome to the team.
The lifelong Liverpool fan would love the chance to play under Klopp, and would do everything in his power to impress the legendary manager. Apart from connecting with people, Gordon will be prominent on the left, with the pace that England needs if they are going to play attacking football.
There will be no bench warming for this star with Klopp in charge – he will be a key member of the squad.
