How switching to a Ping PLD Oslo broomstick putter helped Dan Bradbury win the Open de France

Coming out of The Open at Royal Troon Dan Bradbury decided enough was enough.
He had just shot 83-77 to miss the cut by 12 and lost about five shots from the green across the field. Out of 156 players on the field in Scotland, Bradbury is ranked 152nd.
It was then that the 25-year-old switched to a longer putter – a medium-shafted Ping PLD Oslo – and the Yorkshireman’s season began to change.
At Wentworth he closed with a 65 and at the French Open he posted rounds of 67-66-69-66 for his second win on the DP World Tour.
There were 19 birdies and an eagle over four days and he would finish the week at Le Golf National at the bottom of the tally.
Ranked 11th in Strokes Gained: Putting and inside the top 20 in Putts on the green in regulation, putts per round and one-putt. In four rounds there was not a single three putt.
“I have been struggling for a while. “I’m a maths player and I lost my shot on the green,” Bradbury said.
“I tried a lot of things, I found a coach and I found Mike Kanski who helped me a little, then it started to get worse again. I found many things helped for a while but nothing continued to improve.
“So, this summer after the Open, I just had enough.

“All the other putters are now at home and I was like, really, I’m going to try. What’s the worst that could happen? I was too shy to use it, to be honest, but I’m glad I got it.”
With the win Bradbury moved up 73 places to 25th in the Race to Dubai standings and, having spent most of the season, pondering trying to keep his card he can now look forward to the Tour Championship in Dubai.
There would be three straight birdies on the back nine including a lucky three on the 15th just off the edge of the green.
“It has been a difficult year, a brutal year. After last year’s high level and good finish, I wanted to continue this year and see what I can do, luckily I can do that now,” he added.
“But so far it’s still difficult. When I played at Wentworth, I was 100th in the points table but I was far from safe.
“The goal was to win so I don’t have to go to Korea to keep my card to be honest with you. Hearing that sounds so good. I think I will be looking at flights to Dubai then.”
