After undergoing a minor knee procedure on Monday July 15, Hubert Hurkacz officially withdrew from the Olympics event in Paris.
“My rehab is going very well and I’m making steady progress, however my team and I have decided that I won’t be able to compete in the Olympics in Paris,” Hurkacz wrote on Instagram on Monday.
The player, 27, injured his knee while diving during his loss to Arthur Fils in the third round at Wimbledon.
The Pole played at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, falling to Liam Broady in the second round. This year he was hoping to team up with Iga Swiatek to form a dream production team, but his knee wouldn’t allow it.
“This was a very difficult decision because I always wanted to represent Poland at the Olympics, I could win a medal from the national team, but unfortunately my health is not allowing me this year,” he said. “Yes I will be watching and congratulating the whole Polish team and following their matches, I wish them as many medals as possible.”
