‘I know I won’t be here forever but I’m working as I will’

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he will work as if he will stay at the club forever.

The Australian became the first Spurs manager to last a full season in half a decade but has struggled so far in 2024-25.

He knows his tenure won’t last forever, but that doesn’t stop him from working for long-term success in North London.

“Yes, they brought me a cake,” Postecoglou joked about his longevity compared to recent predecessors. #

“I know I won’t be here forever, but I’m working as hard as I can. Every decision I make comes from that background.

“If you get caught up in the timeline, you create results that will feel right for a while, but in the long run you won’t get where you want to go.”

Before the injury, Postecoglou revealed that striker Wilson Odobert will be sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury during the Carabao Cup win over Coventry.

“Wilson doesn’t look good,” admitted Postecoglou.

“I’m still waiting for it to stabilize. He will definitely be out for the next season. Bissouma trained today so he should be there tomorrow. Timo [Werner]ok.”

The update was less promising for Brazilian striker Richarlison, who is still a long way from returning to action.

“[Richarlison] it is the right way. “You better not ask about him until I give an update because he is not in the first team,” confirmed the manager of Tottenham.

Postecoglou needs to be patient as Solanke waits for the first goal

Postecoglou was also asked about the pressure on striker Dominic Solanke, who is still waiting for his first goal since joining the club for a whopping £65 million.

The manager urged fans and commentators to show more patience with the striker, especially given his injury problems.

“I don’t know because people are quick to judge a friend,” said Postecoglou.

“It’s a small sample. The young man has played less than two games. If he goes 15 games without a goal, I can answer that question or 15 games where he didn’t contribute.

“But I’m just thinking, take a breath. Do some yoga. Think about the world for a moment and check after that. “

Postecoglou stressed that it is too early to make any judgments about Solanke’s impact, given the limited time he has spent on the pitch.

“We shouldn’t be in a hurry to make a decision all the time because the other possibility is that he started well, he’s in good shape, he scored in all four games, he’s flying, and he goes to the same stage again. they don’t score when they don’t score. I don’t just watch those things.

“What I’m looking at is that he came in, he came in well, and it makes sense that he got an injury that affected the way he wanted to start his career, but he still has a lot of time for that.

As Spurs prepare for their upcoming clash with Brentford, Postecoglou will be secretly hoping Solanke can pull out.
