The victory was highly commendable considering England’s inexperienced bowling attack, which featured four bowlers making their first-class debut in Pakistan.
Despite Pakistan’s first innings score of 576, England’s bowlers managed to take 20 wickets for 756 runs, making for a stunning victory. In contrast, Pakistan’s bowling attack managed to bowl out seven English batsmen for an impressive 823 runs.
The defeat marks Pakistan’s sixth consecutive defeat under the captaincy Shan Masood.
Shan Masood acknowledges Pakistan’s struggles
In the post-match interview, Masood admitted that the bowlers need to learn from the way England manage the game, especially in terms of finding ways to win on challenging pitches. “The sad truth is that England found a way after being under the sun for two days and being 556 runs behind but we didn’t,” he said after his team’s embarrassing defeat.
“They chose 10 wickets to give themselves a chance to bat and bat a lot.
“When they came back with the ball, they had a plan and they got a window of opportunity with a new ball and the cracks opened up. The sad truth is that no matter what the pitch, top teams will find a way and what we learn is to find a way when we play Test cricket.”

England’s victory came about by being able to adapt and take advantage of opportunities. Despite the flat pitch, England’s bowlers found ways to take wickets and put pressure on Pakistan’s batsmen.
The collapse of Pakistan’s second innings was a major factor in their defeat. Despite a strong start, Pakistan’s top order collapsed, and they could not recover.
“I can’t say that my team is mentally weak,” Masood said when asked if a mental barrier prevented Pakistan’s batsmen from succeeding in the second innings.
“The third innings when you are alone can be like a collapse and it can appear as if everything has gone wrong. But, if we had kept England to our score, which I thought we did a good job of batting in the first innings, then the 220 we put up today would have been the difference to anything over 150 on the last day in any form. the field needs a proper chase,” he added.
The loss in the first match of the series is a huge setback for Pakistan, who are struggling to find form in Test cricket. The team will need to make significant improvements if they hope to turn their fortunes around.
