The 2024 T20 Women’s World Cup has been pulled out of Bangladesh and will now be held in the UAE.
“However, they will retain the hosting rights. We look forward to taking the ICC’s global event to Bangladesh in the near future.”
The venue had to be changed by the ICC after anti-government protests raged across the country in Bangladesh through July and early August, ending when Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister, resigned and fled to India. An interim government has since been installed, but incidents of vandalism and looting, as well as acts of violence, are reported from Bangladesh.
“I would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous support, and we look forward to seeing ICC world events in both countries in 2026. ,” Allardice said.
This ten-team tournament will start on October 3 and end on October 20.
ICC chairman Barclay will step down in November
Greg Barclay has confirmed to the ICC Board that he will step down as ICC chairman after his term ends in November.
Barclay was appointed independent chairman of the ICC in November 2020, before being re-elected unopposed in 2022.
The current directors are expected to submit names of candidates for the next chairman on August 27. If there are more than two candidates, there will be an election, and the term of the new chairman starts on December 1.
