“I’m not really sure” – Newcastle boss Eddie Howe gives his take on Trippier rumors

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has had his say on recent rumors linking Kieran Trippier with a move away from the club.

Trippier has been a key player for Eddie Howe at Newcastle United in recent years, registering four goals and 21 assists in 92 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 33-year-old player sounds like he wants to leave St. James’ Park was also unused in the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Southampton to open the 2024/25 Premier League season on Saturday – followed. on top of Newcastle U21s’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland U21s on Monday.

Eddie Howe addresses Kieran Trippier rumours

Despite the intensity of the latest rumours, Howe insisted that Trippier has not asked for a move to the club, with the veteran full-back training well and remaining part of his plans going forward.

“The situation is working as usual,” Howe told reports (via Sky Sports).

“The journey trained very well this week. I am amazed at the many stories that have come out. [He’s] an important member of the team. His professionalism was first class. He trained really well since he came back from the Euros. I think he only has two weeks of training hence the decision not to start him at the weekend, as well as Tino’s. [Livramento] had a great pre-season.

“This is the situation – he continues to be informed by all of us.”

As for whether Trippier has expressed a desire to stay or leave Newcastle, Howe said: “Me too. He didn’t have to. He just trained normally and he was very good.

“I really don’t know where this came from. He is preparing for Saturday’s game.”

And when pressed on whether he wanted Trippier to stay, Howe said: “I hope so.” I will not be able to answer these questions with absolute certainty because it is football and the transfer window is always unclear, but my wish is that he stays here and continues to play for us.”

The former Bournemouth manager continued: “You want as many fit and available players to choose from as a top-class club as possible, and Kieran deserves that.

“He had an excellent first season, last year he was hampered by injury at the end of the campaign. But his leadership skills, his ability with the ball, his assist record and everything he will bring to the team we want here.”
